Realized Interactive Displays

During my work with the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center, I have had the great opportunity to design and construct ADA-compliant displays of touchable artifacts, interactive learning experiences, and impactful visual details that complement the museum's environment. This page documents the most notable projects I have completed at the institution that promote their learning and visual context and mission.

Touchable Artifacts

In traditional history museums, interaction with the artifacts is typically prohibited, which can lead to a disconnect for visitors if they are not engaged in other methods of learning through the museum. To combat this, our institution has committed to pursue artisans to craft and model accurate replications of artifacts from our permanent collection in order to promote interaction and hands-on learning for guests of all ages and abilities.

Free Play Learning

Our annual autumn event, Blue Ribbon Country Fair, works to connect visitors to the multiple facets of our regional agriculture through collaboration with our local FFA chapter and the premiere agricultural spokes group for the region Pick TN. To provide an interactive area for children to explore corn and its production, I set to design and construct a covered play table that encourages free Play learning in accordance with ADA regulations.

Gallery Theater Beautification

The theater in the main gallery was distracting to visitors and took away from the educational content being presented. To combat this, I reclaimed an old pallet to create a cover for the speaker and chords from the screen.
