The Amphibian Stage, of Fort Worth, Texas, hosted a student design competition for each discipline of technical theater design. The assignment was to read a brand new script for the production, "Close to Home" written by . For the competition, we as students were to create and present our designs to a board of professionals that both work for and affiliate with Amphibian Stage.

The story follows a washed up and judgmental contractor Colt, a gender transitioning teen, Zara, who had just run away from home, and a local member of the LGTBQ+ community, Kaysar, who has been helping Zara through her transition journey.
