Protozoa

Growing up near the Pacific Ocean, both Marine exploration and preservation have always been very important to me. Knowing now that the deaths and extinctions of thousands of species of microorganisms of our oceans aren't causing exponential damage. I decided to immortalize them in their portraiture as I both beaded and cut their profiles into the faux leather garment. Their existence will now last for longer as the faux leather will surely outlive ourselves.

I titled this piece "Protozoa" after "a group of single-celled eukaryotes, either free-living or parasitic, that feed on organic matter such as other microorganisms or organic tissues and debris". These microorganisms are considered to be the first animals living in our earths creation. They have continued to evolve and adapt to millions of years of unique environments, until now. Oceanic wastes of toxic debris and runoff are far too harmful for these microorganisms to coexist with causing their mass expiration and eventual extinction.
